The Mid-Atlantic Chapter of the International Interior Design Association (IIDA MAC) recognized OTJ’s design of the NCARB headquarters at its yearly Premiere awards gala, held virtually for the first time. For 25 consecutive years, this prestigious competition, judged by a team of lauded design professionals from around the country, has honored the best interior projects submitted by Washington, Northern Virginia, Baltimore, and Annapolis firms.
With a mandate to transcend mere application of materials, the design of the new NCARB headquarters results from a collaborative process that engaged the client’s own architecturally trained staff to arrive at a triangular concept of intersecting lines and planes that illustrates the architect’s professional journey from study, to registration examination, and licensure. Located in Washington, D.C., our design took top honors in the 15,000 – 25,000 square foot category. The new headquarters is LEED Gold and Fitwell building standard certified.
Lance Jaccard, OTJ CEO, remarked: “NCARB is an exceptional client who, like us, was eager to ask hard questions, push boundaries, and ultimately create a space that inspires the whole of our design community. We are thrilled to see this project recognized by our industry peers.” This year’s IIDA MAC awards competition drew an exceptional number of superlative entries with projects ranging from less than 10,000 to over 100,000 square feet.
