Washington, DC

Spectrum desired an office space that reflects their culture: innovative, tech-driven and flexible. In their previous location, staff members were not connected and the receptionist was isolated.

OTJ observed the employees in their every-day working environments. In order to connect staff, the employee lounge was deliberately positioned at the reception and along the main circulation corridor creating a central meeting zone. Spectrum staff members regularly collaborate with their peers, so OTJ provided a break-out space with flexible seating. Spectrum focuses on innovations in medical research and health sciences; the open plan ceiling was a way of representing DNA-inspired panels in a random layout. Supporting the company’s business objectives and mission with a vintage feel, super-graphics with old news articles from historical advances in medicine and science were used as artwork.
