Travis Herret, an avid cyclist, is a Studio Director at OTJ with 14 years of industry experience. Originally from Florida, he attended the University of Florida earning both Bachelor of Design and Master of Architecture degrees. During Travis’ career at OTJ, his projects have been recognized with numerous design awards. Two of his most recent projects were honored by the International Interior Design Association Mid-Atlantic Chapter (IIDA MAC) – American Gaming Association received an Award of Honor in 2016 and Entertainment Software Association was presented with the Award of Merit in 2017.
What made you decide you wanted to be an architect?
When I realized that the things that I created could have an effect on the built environment, I was hooked
What do you enjoy most about being an architect?
Working with clients to solve difficult problems through creative design solutions
What is your favorite building and why?
Therme Vals in Vals Switzerland by Peter Zumthor; I’ve never been to a place so perfectly designed to its environment and surroundings
Where did you grow up?
Florida – not the Mickey Mouse Florida, but the place with springs and live oak trees with Spanish moss
What was your first job?
Shelving textbooks in a college bookstore warehouse
What is the last thing you cooked?
Chocolate chip pancakes for my kids
What is a vacation you’d repeat?
Mountain biking in Colorado
