National Cable & Television Association
Washington DC

Occupying 2 floors and 53,000 RSF NCTA was concerned about the adjustment from 6 floors to having almost all the staff on one floor. To ease this concern we created informal meeting areas surrounding open pantries that embrace the community atmosphere NCTA’s staff has developed. The journey across the 2nd floor is now something to look forward to. The palette for the space was conservative yet bold in the appropriate spaces. From the street entrance visitors are welcomed by a high-tech LED and acrylic paneled wall. The light walls announce the entrance for NCTA’s virtual house in which they showcase the most cutting edge uses of cable technology. The use of bamboo throughout the space creates textural continuity while simultaneously acting as a backdrop to the technology integrated throughout the space. With NCTA’s numerous member companies, the walls that surround the interconnected stair case are perfect for showcasing various display posters and cable programs. These posters were changed three times within the first month for a variety of grand opening events, demonstrating the ease with which the display can be changed. 1,500 SF of concrete was cut out of the 2nd floor slab to create space for the 100+ person High Definition, THX rated theater. Graceful metal panels curve across the ceiling and are warmed by the Swiss fabric wrapped walls and the durable white leather Italian seats. This theater integrated THX requirements for sound inside the theater, isolated the slab above and below from sound transmission, and created a studio environment for proper filming of Public Service Announcements in front of a green screen. The result is the most technically advanced and visually stunning private theater in the DC area. The first floor is primarily used for educating and entertaining NCTA’s many guests. NCTA needed a virtual home complete with game room, office, living room, kitchen and dining room. OTJ continued the bamboo treatment as a timeless backdrop for what will surely be a constantly evolving space.
