Embassy
of Liberia
The
years of unrest and turbulence of the Liberian nation was marked by this
prairie-style brick house that lay fire scorched for nearly 12 years.
The Liberian Embassy at 5216 16th Street, N.W., sits across from Carter
Baron in Washington D.C., and stands anew as a symbol of how a heritage
can be transformed into a legacy through good design planning.
This
eleven room house required a great deal of careful and sympathetic
restoration The architectural craftmanship that has come
to define OTJ moves beyond the facade of the building's exterior,
it is
a pervasive detail that succeeds in returning this deeply
neglected interior back to its original form. What had to be
overcome in
this project was the tension of a still vivid history and
the prominence of a vital heritage. It is obvious that a renewed
strength was achieved.
