IIDA Bronze Award
Winner - 2008
Greenberg Quinlan Rosner Research is a global leader in public opinion
research and strategic consulting, working with corporations, issue
groups, and political campaigns throughout the United States and around
the world. We worked with the client to design a space that reflects
the established firm they are, with added flair to attract young, ambitious
staff members. Their space is conducive to working both in teams and
individually. It allows for growth over time and will accommodate the
ever contracting and expanding staff which is natural in their industry. Particularly challenging was the long and narrow shape of the space.
Emphasis was placed on concentrating all gathering areas in one section
(conference room, pantry, copy room) and the actual working areas in
another. Adjacency and technology were key components in configuring
the space. The conference area was designed so that it can be divided
into various configurations, complete with state of the art audiovisual
equipment for overseas conferencing and frequently held press conferences. Unique
to this space is the café element. Given the long work
hours, the client wanted to create a feeling of “home” where
employees could spend time in an area other than the confinement of
their workspace. Red laminate countertops were selected accented by
a 3-form resin bar top in cranberry. The café is conveniently
located as a pass through from the working area to the gathering area. To further develop the plan, curved elements were used to define the
space in the reception area. The maple wood reception desk has a curved
edge with a white and brown alabaster 3-form resin that leads the eye
around the space. A curved line separates the various floor finishes.
The paint color is mainly white throughout, acting as a background
with accents of bright color reflected in the furniture and wall color.
