This
project faced many design challenges; the client needed
a space that could
be flexible and efficient, as well as incorporate the latest technologies
in audio video and networking. The space also had to support various
group functions and meetings in a simultaneous environment. We
began to design using the client’s business strategies and
concepts to describe the circulation path. We
named this
path the “racetrack”, as it began
to carve an elliptical path through the space. The “racetrack” anchors
a series of conference and team areas, each of a unique design and
function, keyed to events along the path of Touchstone's business
strategy. Visitors to the space would experience this strategy through
a series
of meetings and seminars that move
through around the path. Each room
utilizes the latest networking and audiovisual technologies for presentations
and real time training sessions, and those running the session are
free to move about the room while keeping full control over the presentation. Outside
the “racetrack” is the “flex” areas of open
office. We
employed a system of mobile pedestals and docking areas; each employee
would have their own pedestal, which
they would move to an open station for the day. The systems furniture
makes it easy to reconfigure an area of the open office environment
when employee teams are created
for the execution of specific projects. Once completed, the team
can be disbanded and the open office area can be returned to its
original layout.
