Department
of State
A/LM
This
buildout for A/LM was the direct result of growth within the unit, the
need to relocate to a new space with growth potential, and the need to
integrate the latest technology into the space for staff use. During
the design process, this goal was not only the client’s, but the
architectural team’s as well. In addition to providing long term
functional space for staff meetings, the space acts as a technology oriented
planning center. Large plasma screens and telecommunication conferencing
systems were incorporated into the main conference room. Lighting was
studied carefully to achieve the maximum amount needed for workstation
use without glare and reflection off walls.Highly-detailed
3-dimensional modeling was employed to convey these design options to
A/LM. This was essential to their understanding of the potential configurations
and the lighting options our designers were affording them. The layered
system of lighting elements in this state-of-the-art conference room
allow the A/LM staff to control precisely how much light is needed
during a meeting. The angles and edges in the furniture juxtaposed to
the curved ceiling offer a sleek contrast. The workstation configuration
demonstrated below ensures that the proper amount of light is spread
out with respect to the ceiling and lighting
grid. Additional warmer lighting was added to the columns to further
illuminate the circulation paths, while allowing for the addition of
a printer/fax station there if need be.
