Corning
Washington DC
Corning
Incorporated is a diversified technology company with a proud history
of developing breakthrough technologies that significantly
improve people's lives. Headquartered in Corning, New York, their needs
required a 6,000square foot Government Affairs office in Washington,
DC. The
client wanted to incorporate glass as an important design feature
because of their history in the manufacturing
and production of glass
products. OTJ detailed a stacked glass
display wall in the reception area to showcase items currently in production
by Corning. Lighting was set to accent the product samples, with brief
descriptions of each invention. A display cabinet was also designed
for a Steuben art glass piece. This design reflects Corning’s
rich history and accentuates their achievements in invention. In
addition to the glass display areas, glass walls and clerestories were
incorporated throughout the office to allow natural light to penetrate
the space and create a visually open work environment. Warm toned Anigre
and Cherry wood millwork and furniture contrast the cool nature of
the glass to complete the space. The
hallway from the reception area is open and filled with light colors
to help light the space. The conference room combines both light
and dark woods, with recessed lights found throughout the ceiling.
Corning is also at the forefront of developing breakthrough technologies
for LCD flat panel displays. Therefore,
the design includes LCD screens
in the reception area, which shows Corning’s historic timeline
for office visitors. Another LCD flat panel was used at the end of
the main hall to display internal Corning information for employees.
