The Nature Conservancy's headquarters is a 172,000 SF building, with TNC occupying five full floors and two partial floors and leasing the rest of the floors. The challenges facing this renovation included: lack of large informal meeting areas, collaboration spaces and phone rooms; departmental adjacency issues; identity and orientation of each floor; energy inefficiency of lighting and oversized workstations that limited daylight.
Through a detailed space planning process, we developed solutions to accommodate 520 employees and address all of TNC’s office concerns. Enabling staff to interact in different ways, we increased the number of conference rooms and informal collaborative areas and designed a new conference center. In addition, departmental re-organizing created better working relationships. Furniture in each space encourages multiple work styles with tables of varying heights, lounge seating, flexible tables and chairs and fixed conferencing options.
